General FAQ

are you accepting new clients, supervisees, or consultees?

I am accepting new clients and supervisees in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and throughout the state of North Carolina. I am available for consultation services. You can Contact Me to discuss more.

Generally, as my practice is part-time, I have limited availability on my caseload. I aim to have a balance of client cases, supervision cases, and consultation cases.

  • I am accepting new clients at this time. I generally see clients between 10am-5pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. I have some flexibility on other days or times for virtual appointments on a case-by-case basis.

  • I am accepting new supervisees, and can see any provisionally licensed supervisee in North Carolina. For non-licensure supervision, I can see folks throughout the country.

  • I am available to discuss consultation opportunities throughout the United States and internationally.

Do you Accept Insurance? How much Do services cost?

I am not paneled with any insurance providers and cannot accept insurance as payment. I would be considered Out of Network for therapy services. You can scroll down to read more about how much counseling costs, how OON insurance reimbursement might work, reduced rates and pro bono options, as well as what payments I accept, in the Counseling FAQs below.

Supervision and consultation are not reimbursable through insurance and are self-pay as well. You can scroll down to read more about the costs of these services in their FAQ sections, too!

How Do I Get more information or schedule an appointment?

You can either email (bewyche@salembloom.com) or call (336.396.9918) me directly to ask additional questions, schedule a consultation call, or set up an appointment. You can also go to my Contact page if you prefer to message me through the website.

What are your Qualifications?

I have a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I earned a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I am a National Certified Counselor, and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor in the state of North Carolina. I have worked as a counselor for thirteen years, have approximately 17 years of experience in the mental health field. I also have six years of supervision training and experience. You can learn more about me and my experience on the About Brittany page.

What is telehealth or a virtual meeting? how does it work?

  • I use Simple Practice’s HIPAA compliant Telehealth services through a client portal and HIPAA compliant Google Meet as needed.

  • I will create a link to the meeting and invite you to it via email of a calendar invite. When ready, click the link and away we go!

  • You will need to either download the Simple Practice Client Portal and/or Google Meet software to your phone, or access the link from a computer browser window.

  • Please find a safe secure confidential space to have your online session or meeting. A lot of people sit in their car in the driveway or garage for peace and quiet. Or they hop on a desktop in a room in their home, use a white noise app on their phone for privacy, and shut the door. I only ask that you are not currently driving, and that you are in a safe and prviate location.

ARE YOU OFFERING FACE-TO-FACE APPOINTMENTS or meetings?

I do offer face-to-face appointments in a downtown office in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesdays and Fridays. If we agree to meet face-to-face I request the following:

  • Please disclose if you have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 or another respiratory or contagious illness. We can meet virtually instead of face-to-face (or cancel & reschedule) while you are sick/quarantining to protect each other, and others who may use the building. I may also need to reschedule or offer a virtual appointment instead of face-to-face if I am exposed to or diagnosed with COVID or another respiratory or contagious illness.

Counseling FAQ

How much does counseling cost? How do I pay?

  • I provide a free, 15-minute phone consultation prior to starting treatment if requested.

  • My standard fees for service are $175 for the first intake session, and $150 per regular therapy session following the intake.

  • I reserve a limited number of reduced rate and pro-bono spots on my caseload as well. If you are in need of one of these options, I can let you know what space is available on my caseload.

  • I accept check, health savings account, and debit/credit card payments.

  • I can provide you with a Superbill to file for out-of-network benefits from your insurance provider to receive reimbursement as covered in your plan. Please note out-of-network reimbursement does require me to make and document a diagnosis.

  • I am not currently on any insurance panels and cannot accept insurance as payment at this time.

  • I ask that you cancel at least 24 hours in advance of our appointment. If you cancel in less than 24 hours, I charge a $50.00 late cancellation fee. If you no-show for your appointment, you will be charged the full fee for your regular session.

Can you tell me more about why you don’t accept insurance?

I completely understand wanting to use your insurance benefits to access therapy - or being unable to afford to access therapy without using insurance. Please know I am always willing to have transparent conversations about accessing counseling and the realities of navigating this financially and logistically.

However, after working in various mental health settings and interacting with different forms of payment and treatment coverage, I have found some benefits to not accepting insurance for myself and clients:

  • Clinical autonomy: you and I can make treatment decisions based solely on clinical recommendations, rather than insurance company requirements. This also allows for the capacity for longer term relational and trauma recovery work, which may not fit into insurance-based limitations for length of treatment.

  • I can treat and offer support to people when problems may not rise to the level of a clear diagnosis - or for clients who are not comfortable with having a mental health diagnosis on their insurance or medical record, as insurance requires a diagnosis for reimbursement or coverage.

  • No use of clinical material for Artificial Intelligence data mining or development, which sometimes insurance companies may participate in. I highly value your confidentiality and the unique, human nature of our work together.

  • Increased clinician capacity for treatment planning and conceptualization, as well as collaboration, consultation, and advocacy on behalf of client when needed.

  • Not all folks have insurance! And some folks technically have coverage, but have a very high deductible; insurance can be so variable. Sometimes with a reduced rate or discussing different frequency of meetings, someone can access my services without insurance coverage just as easily as they could with insurance coverage.

how long does counseling take? How long Is a Session?

  • Length of treatment is determined through initial and on-going assessment, consultation to the client, and depends on symptom acuity and treatment goals.

  • Intake assessment appointments are typically 75 minutes, and regular counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes.

  • You have the right to end treatment at any point for any reason. I welcome on-going discussion about your treatment planning and frequency of sessions.

Is there anything I need to prepare for Our first counseling session?

I will email you a link to my electronic health record Client Portal. Through the Client Portal, you will be able to access paperwork to review and complete prior to our first meeting. The intake will ask for some basic mental health and medical history, as well as why you are currently seeking counseling. There will also be legal and financial paperwork to complete prior to our meeting. You can also sign up for email appointment reminders in your Client Portal.

If we are meeting virtually, I will email you a Client Portal telehealth or Google Meet link within 24 hours prior to our appointment. If we are meeting face-to-face, you can either wait in your car and text me when you have arrived, or you can come in and wait in the waiting room.

Supervision FAQs

How frequently will we meet for licensure supervision?

Frequency of meetings depends on your counseling work schedule. The North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors requires at least 1 hour of supervision per every 40 hours of work in a counseling role (combined indirect and direct hours), with a minimum of 1 one-hour meeting per month. There are some exemptions to this if you work in a school or hospital setting. We may either meet weekly, biweekly, or some other amount depending on how frequently you engage in counseling work, but we would meet at least once per month.

How much does supervision cost?

My fee is $125 per individual supervision meeting. If I have enough supervisees interested in group supervision, we can also explore that possibility depending on scheduling and availability. My group supervision rate is $50 per group session. Individual sessions are the 50-60 minute hour, and group sessions are 1.5 hours.

do you accept practicum or internship students? do you offer site supervision?

No, my practice does not serve as a placement for practicum or internship clinical students at this time; this means I do not not offer site supervision to students who are currently pursuing clinical training.

Depending on my teaching load and responsibilities, I may serve as a university supervisor to students through their educational programs, but am not a site supervisor. Internship and practicum cannot be completed through my practice.

What if i am fully licensed but would like to continue receiving supervision? do you offer any specialty supervision for certification?

I do not offer supervision for specialized certifications. However, I am happy to work with folks who are seeking additional clinical supervision beyond licensure who find it beneficial! Since you are on unrestricted license, we would not be required to meet with a specific frequency. We can discuss your goals for supervision and what my support might look like in our consultation meeting.

What do i need to do to work with you as a supervisor?

First, reach out & contact me! There is a screening form on my Supervision page that you can complete and email to me so that I can gather more information and see if I might be a good fit for you. If so, I will offer a free consultation call to answer additional questions you may have, and so that we can talk about the paperwork you will need to complete for the Board if you are pursuing supervision for licensure.

Consultation FAQs

Do you have a consultation fee?

Although I offer brief, one-time consultation calls for prospective clients and supervisees, for other consultation services I do have a fee structure. In general, my consultation fee is $175 per hour for speaking, educational, or presentation events.

If you are a clinician who is fully licensed, but are interested in receiving some additional temporary consultation support (as opposed to a more ongoing supervisory relationship), we can negotiate a contract for frequency of meetings. My rate for clinical case consultation support is $125 per hour.
